What is the best age to visit the Orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an Orthodontist around the age of seven.
Anyone, at any age, can benefit from orthodontic care; whether it is correcting a problem not treated in your younger years, or catching a problem at an early age.
Whether you’re considering treatment for yourself or for your child, anytime is an appropriate time to visit the Orthodontist.
Do braces hurt?
In general, braces don’t hurt, but after some of the adjustment appointments, teeth may be sore for a few days.
If this is the case. Motrin or Tylenol will help ease the pain and discomfort.
Will I have to have teeth pulled to have braces?
Only if it will help your teeth and jaws fit together better.
Don’t worry if you have teeth removed, your braces will close the spaces.
how can I take care of my teeth if I´m wearing braces or a retainer?
ALWAYS brush your teeth after every meal, and floss at least once a day!
• Make sure to use toothpaste that contains fluoride, and ask your orthodontist or family dentist if you need a fluoride rinse. This will help prevent cavities!
•When you take out your retainer to eat, make sure you Keep it safe and its container so that it does not get lost or broken.
•Keep your retainer clean, by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste you may also something in denture cleaner as instructed by your orthodontist. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.
•During your treatment, try to avoid foods with a lot of sugar (it increases the risk of getting cavities).
•Avoid sticky and chewy foods (Carrel, chewing gum, gummy bears), hard foods…
